The frequency of A1C testing depends on your health status and whether you have diabetes or prediabetes:

  • For people with diabetes:

    • If you are meeting your treatment goals, your A1C should be checked at least twice a year.
    • If you are not meeting your goals or have recently changed your treatment plan, your doctor may recommend testing every 3 months.
  • For people with prediabetes:

    • If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, your doctor may recommend an A1C test every 1 to 2 years to monitor your condition.
  • For people without diabetes:

    • If you are over 45 or have risk factors for diabetes, your doctor may recommend an A1C test every 3 years.

Always consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice based on your medical history and risk factors.
