The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It is calculated based on the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that is coated with sugar (glycated hemoglobin). The formula to estimate your A1C from average blood glucose levels is:

A1C (%) = (Average Blood Glucose (mg/dL) + 46.7) / 28.7

For example, if your average blood glucose is 154 mg/dL, your A1C would be approximately 7%.

Average Blood Glucose (mg/dL) A1C (%)

126 6
154 7
183 8
212 9
240 10

This calculation provides an estimate, but the most accurate A1C result comes from a lab test.
