The A1C test result is typically listed on lab reports as a percentage. It represents the percentage of your red blood cells that have glucose-coated hemoglobin. Here’s how it is usually displayed:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

In some cases, the A1C result may also be reported as estimated Average Glucose (eAG), which provides an average blood sugar level in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or millimoles per liter (mmol/L).

A1C % eAG (mg/dL) eAG (mmol/L)

6 126 7.0
7 154 8.6
8 183 10.1
9 212 11.8
10 240 13.4

If you have questions about your A1C results, consult your healthcare provider for further interpretation.
