The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It is calculated based on the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that is coated with sugar (glycated hemoglobin). Here’s how it works:

  • Formula: A1C (%) = (Average Blood Glucose (mg/dL) + 46.7) / 28.7
  • Example: If your average blood glucose is 154 mg/dL, your A1C would be (154 + 46.7) / 28.7 = 7%.

You can also use the following table to estimate A1C based on average blood glucose levels:

A1C (%) Estimated Average Glucose (mg/dL)

6 126
7 154
8 183
9 212
10 240

For accurate results, consult your healthcare provider and get an A1C test done in a lab.
