A blood sugar level of 142 mg/dL can be considered high depending on the context:

  • Fasting Blood Sugar: If this reading is taken after fasting (not eating for at least 8 hours), it is higher than the normal range (70–99 mg/dL) and may indicate prediabetes or diabetes.
  • Post-Meal Blood Sugar: If this reading is taken 1–2 hours after eating, it is slightly elevated but may still be within a normal range for some individuals. However, consistently high post-meal readings could indicate poor blood sugar control.

Normal Blood Sugar Ranges:

  • Fasting: 70–99 mg/dL
  • Post-Meal (1–2 hours): Less than 140 mg/dL

If you frequently see readings of 142 mg/dL or higher, consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation and management.
