The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. Here’s what the results mean:

A1C Level (%) Diagnosis

Below 5.7 Normal
5.7 - 6.4 Prediabetes
6.5 or higher Diabetes

  • Normal: Indicates healthy blood sugar control.
  • Prediabetes: Suggests an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
  • Diabetes: Indicates diabetes, requiring management through lifestyle changes, medication, or both.

For people with diabetes, the goal is typically to keep A1C levels below 7% to reduce the risk of complications. However, individual targets may vary based on your doctor's recommendations.
