You may be at risk for diabetes if you have any of the following risk factors:

  • Age: Being 45 years or older.
  • Weight: Being overweight or obese.
  • Family History: Having a parent or sibling with type 2 diabetes.
  • Physical Inactivity: Engaging in physical activity less than 3 times a week.
  • Health Conditions: Having high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a history of heart disease.
  • Ethnicity: Being African American, Hispanic, American Indian, or Alaska Native.
  • Gestational Diabetes: Having had diabetes during pregnancy or giving birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds.

If you have any of these risk factors, it is recommended to get tested for diabetes, especially if you are over 45. The A1C test is a common method used to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes. Regular monitoring and lifestyle changes can help reduce your risk.
