The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It is expressed as a percentage, and the result is based on the amount of glucose attached to hemoglobin in your red blood cells. Here’s how it works:

  • A1C Formula:

    • A1C (%) = (Average Blood Glucose (mg/dL) + 46.7) / 28.7
    • Alternatively, you can use the estimated Average Glucose (eAG) formula:
      • eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × A1C (%) - 46.7
  • Example: If your A1C is 7%, your estimated average glucose (eAG) would be approximately 154 mg/dL.

A1C (%) eAG (mg/dL)

6 126
7 154
8 183
9 212
10 240

  • Note: The A1C test is typically performed in a lab or doctor’s office, and you cannot calculate it at home without blood test results.

For accurate results, consult your healthcare provider for an A1C test.
