Type 2 diabetes can often be managed and, in some cases, reversed through lifestyle changes. Here are some key strategies:

  • Diet: Adopting a healthy, balanced diet low in refined sugars and high in fiber can help manage blood sugar levels.
  • Exercise: Regular physical activity improves insulin sensitivity and helps with weight management.
  • Weight Loss: Losing even a modest amount of weight can significantly improve blood sugar control.
  • Medication: In some cases, medications may be necessary, but lifestyle changes can reduce or eliminate the need for them.

Prediabetes, a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be classified as diabetes, can also be reversed with similar lifestyle changes.

Type 1 diabetes, however, cannot be reversed as it is an autoimmune condition where the body does not produce insulin.
