For most diabetes tests, such as the fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test, you typically need to fast for 8 to 12 hours before the test. This means no food or drink (except water) during this period. Here’s a quick guide:

  • Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) Test: Fast for 8-12 hours.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): Fast for 8-12 hours, then drink a glucose solution, and have blood drawn at intervals.
