A good fasting glucose level is typically within the following ranges:

  • Normal: 70–99 mg/dL (3.9–5.5 mmol/L)
  • Prediabetes: 100–125 mg/dL (5.6–6.9 mmol/L)
  • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher on two separate tests

Fasting glucose is measured after not eating for at least 8 hours. Maintaining a fasting glucose level in the normal range is important for overall health and reducing the risk of diabetes and related complications. If your fasting glucose is in the prediabetes or diabetes range, consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation and management.
