Fasting blood sugar (FBS) level refers to the amount of glucose in your blood after not eating or drinking anything except water for at least 8 hours. It is commonly used to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes. Here are the standard ranges:

  • Normal: Less than 100 mg/dL
  • Prediabetes: 100 to 125 mg/dL
  • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL or higher on two separate tests

Fasting blood sugar tests are often done in the morning before breakfast. If your levels are higher than normal, your healthcare provider may recommend further testing or lifestyle changes to manage your blood sugar.
