Good glucose numbers depend on whether you are checking your blood sugar levels while fasting, after eating, or using the A1C test. Here are the general guidelines:

  • Fasting Blood Sugar (before eating):

    • Normal: 70–99 mg/dL
    • Prediabetes: 100–125 mg/dL
    • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL or higher
  • Postprandial (2 hours after eating):

    • Normal: Less than 140 mg/dL
    • Prediabetes: 140–199 mg/dL
    • Diabetes: 200 mg/dL or higher
  • A1C Test (average blood sugar over 2–3 months):

    • Normal: Below 5.7%
    • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
    • Diabetes: 6.5% or higher

These ranges may vary slightly depending on individual health conditions, so always consult your healthcare provider for personalized targets.
