Blood glucose levels are used to diagnose and monitor diabetes. Here are the key ranges:

  • Normal: Fasting blood glucose levels below 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L).
  • Prediabetes: Fasting blood glucose levels between 100–125 mg/dL (5.6–6.9 mmol/L).
  • Diabetes: Fasting blood glucose levels of 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher on two separate tests.

Additionally, the A1C test measures average blood glucose over the past 2–3 months:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

If you have diabetes, your target A1C level is typically below 7%, but your doctor may adjust this based on your individual health needs.
