For individuals with diabetes, maintaining blood sugar levels within a target range is crucial for managing the condition and preventing complications. Here are the general guidelines for blood sugar levels:

  • Fasting Blood Sugar (before meals): 80–130 mg/dL
  • Postprandial Blood Sugar (1-2 hours after meals): Less than 180 mg/dL

These targets may vary depending on individual health conditions, age, and other factors. It's important to work with your healthcare provider to determine the best target range for you.

A1C Levels

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

For most people with diabetes, the A1C goal is 7% or less, but your doctor may set a different target based on your medical history.
