The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. Here’s what the A1C results mean:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

For most people with diabetes, the target A1C level is 7% or less. However, your doctor may set a different goal based on your age, health conditions, and other factors. Maintaining a lower A1C can reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.

If your A1C is high, lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, and medication can help you reach your target.
