The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. The results are reported as a percentage, and the following ranges are used to diagnose diabetes and prediabetes:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

For most people with diabetes, the A1C goal is 7% or less, but your doctor may set a different target based on your individual health needs. Higher A1C levels are associated with an increased risk of diabetes complications, so managing your A1C is crucial for long-term health.
