Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) levels are used to diagnose diabetes. According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the CDC, the following ranges are used:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

If your A1C level is 6.5% or higher, it is considered diabetic. This test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months, providing a more comprehensive picture than a single blood sugar reading.

For more details, you can refer to the CDC's A1C Test page.
