The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. The results are reported as a percentage. Here’s what the ranges mean:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

An A1C level of 6.5% or higher is considered high and indicates diabetes. For most people with diabetes, the goal is to keep their A1C level below 7% to reduce the risk of complications. However, individual targets may vary based on your doctor's recommendations and your overall health.
