An A1C level of 6.8% is considered above the normal range and falls into the diabetes category. Here’s what the A1C ranges mean:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

An A1C of 6.8% indicates that your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months have been elevated. For most people with diabetes, the target A1C goal is below 7%, but your doctor may set a different goal based on your health condition.

If your A1C is 6.8%, it’s important to work with your healthcare provider to manage your blood sugar levels through lifestyle changes, medication, or other treatments. Source
