Type 2 diabetes is diagnosed based on specific blood sugar level criteria. The following ranges are used to diagnose diabetes:

  • A1C Test: An A1C level of 6.5% or higher indicates diabetes.
  • Fasting Blood Sugar Test: A fasting blood sugar level of 126 mg/dL or higher indicates diabetes.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): A blood sugar level of 200 mg/dL or higher after 2 hours during an OGTT indicates diabetes.

If you have symptoms of diabetes (e.g., frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss), a single abnormal test result may be sufficient for diagnosis. Otherwise, a second test is usually required to confirm the diagnosis.

Always consult with a healthcare professional for accurate diagnosis and management.
