You should consider getting tested for diabetes if you have any of the following risk factors or symptoms:

  • Age: If you are over 45 years old.
  • Weight: If you are overweight or obese.
  • Family History: If you have a parent or sibling with type 2 diabetes.
  • Physical Activity: If you are physically active less than 3 times a week.
  • Medical History: If you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a history of heart disease.
  • Symptoms: If you experience symptoms such as frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss, or fatigue.

Testing Recommendations:

  • A1C Test: This test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. It is a common test for diagnosing prediabetes and diabetes.
  • Fasting Blood Sugar Test: This test measures your blood sugar after an overnight fast.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test: This test measures your blood sugar before and after drinking a sugary drink.

If you have any of these risk factors or symptoms, consult your healthcare provider to determine if you should get tested for diabetes.
