The ideal blood sugar level in the morning (fasting blood sugar) varies depending on whether you have diabetes, prediabetes, or no diabetes:

  • Normal (No Diabetes): 70–99 mg/dL (3.9–5.5 mmol/L)
  • Prediabetes: 100–125 mg/dL (5.6–6.9 mmol/L)
  • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher on two separate tests

For people with diabetes, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends a fasting blood sugar goal of 80–130 mg/dL (4.4–7.2 mmol/L). However, individual targets may vary based on your doctor's recommendations and overall health.

If your morning blood sugar is consistently outside the target range, consult your healthcare provider for adjustments to your treatment plan.
