There are several tests available to measure blood sugar levels, each serving different purposes:

  • Fasting Blood Sugar Test: Measures blood sugar after an overnight fast. Normal levels are below 100 mg/dL.
  • A1C Test: Provides an average blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months. Results are given in percentages:
    • Normal: Below 5.7%
    • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
    • Diabetes: 6.5% or above
  • Random Blood Sugar Test: Measures blood sugar at any time, regardless of when you last ate. A level of 200 mg/dL or higher suggests diabetes.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): Measures blood sugar before and after drinking a sugary liquid. It's often used to diagnose gestational diabetes.

These tests help diagnose diabetes, prediabetes, or monitor how well you're managing your condition. Consult your healthcare provider to determine which test is right for you.
