After fasting (typically 8 hours without food), normal blood sugar levels should generally fall within the following ranges:

  • Normal: 70 to 99 mg/dL (3.9 to 5.5 mmol/L)
  • Prediabetes: 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L)
  • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher on two separate tests

If your fasting blood sugar is consistently above 100 mg/dL, it may indicate prediabetes or diabetes, and you should consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
