The Glucose Management Indicator (GMI) is an estimate of your average blood glucose levels over the past 2-3 months, similar to the A1C test. A good GMI percentage depends on your individual health goals and diabetes management plan. However, general guidelines are:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

For most people with diabetes, the target GMI is 7% or less, but your healthcare provider may set a different goal based on your age, health conditions, and risk factors.

GMI (%) Estimated Average Glucose (mg/dL)

6 126
7 154
8 183

Always consult your doctor to determine the best GMI target for you.
