To determine if you are prediabetic, healthcare providers typically use the following tests:

  • A1C Test: Measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. Prediabetes is indicated by an A1C level between 5.7% and 6.4%.
  • Fasting Blood Sugar Test: Measures blood sugar after an overnight fast. Prediabetes is indicated by a fasting blood sugar level between 100 mg/dL and 125 mg/dL.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): Measures blood sugar before and after drinking a sugary drink. Prediabetes is indicated by a blood sugar level between 140 mg/dL and 199 mg/dL after 2 hours.

If you have risk factors such as being overweight, having a family history of diabetes, or being physically inactive, it's important to get tested regularly.
