Prediabetes often has no clear symptoms, but some signs and risk factors to watch for include:

  • Increased thirst and frequent urination: High blood sugar levels can cause these symptoms.
  • Fatigue: Feeling unusually tired or sluggish.
  • Blurred vision: High blood sugar can affect your eyesight.
  • Darkened skin patches: Often found in areas like the neck, armpits, or groin (a condition called acanthosis nigricans).
  • Family history: A family history of type 2 diabetes increases your risk.
  • Weight issues: Being overweight or obese is a significant risk factor.

If you notice any of these signs or have risk factors, it’s important to get tested. The A1C test is commonly used to diagnose prediabetes, with results between 5.7% to 6.4% indicating prediabetes.
