Glucose levels are a key factor in diagnosing diabetes, but they are not the only factor. Here’s how glucose levels are used:

  • Fasting Blood Glucose Test: Measures blood sugar after an overnight fast. A level of 126 mg/dL or higher on two separate tests indicates diabetes.
  • A1C Test: Reflects average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. An A1C level of 6.5% or higher suggests diabetes.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): Measures blood sugar before and after drinking a glucose-rich drink. A level of 200 mg/dL or higher after 2 hours indicates diabetes.

While elevated glucose levels are a strong indicator, other factors like symptoms, medical history, and additional tests are also considered for a definitive diagnosis.
