Glucose levels can be an important indicator of diabetes, but they are not the sole diagnostic tool. Here’s how glucose levels relate to diabetes:

  • Normal Glucose Levels: Fasting blood glucose levels below 100 mg/dL are considered normal.
  • Prediabetes: Fasting blood glucose levels between 100-125 mg/dL may indicate prediabetes.
  • Diabetes: Fasting blood glucose levels of 126 mg/dL or higher on two separate tests typically indicate diabetes.

However, other tests like the A1C test (which measures average blood glucose over 2-3 months) and oral glucose tolerance tests are also used for diagnosis. A1C levels of 6.5% or higher are diagnostic for diabetes.

It’s important to consult a healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation if you suspect diabetes.
