Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Risk of Progression: Without lifestyle changes, prediabetes can progress to type 2 diabetes, which increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other complications.
  • Health Risks: Even before progressing to diabetes, prediabetes is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and other health issues.
  • Reversible: The good news is that prediabetes can often be reversed through lifestyle changes such as:
    • Healthy Eating: Focus on a balanced diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and lean proteins.
    • Regular Exercise: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week.
    • Weight Loss: Losing even a small amount of weight (5-7% of body weight) can significantly reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

If you have prediabetes, it’s important to work with your healthcare provider to monitor your condition and take steps to prevent it from progressing.
