Prediabetes is a very common condition in the United States. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 3 adults (approximately 96 million Americans) have prediabetes. However, more than 80% of these individuals are unaware of their condition. Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. Without lifestyle changes, many people with prediabetes may develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years.

Risk Factors for Prediabetes:

  • Being overweight or obese
  • Being 45 years or older
  • Having a family history of diabetes
  • Being physically inactive
  • Having a history of gestational diabetes

If you have risk factors, it’s important to get tested regularly and take steps to prevent the progression to type 2 diabetes.
