Prediabetes is not classified as type 1 or type 2 diabetes. It is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. However, prediabetes is more closely related to type 2 diabetes because it is often caused by insulin resistance, a hallmark of type 2 diabetes.

  • Type 1 Diabetes: An autoimmune condition where the body attacks insulin-producing cells.
  • Type 2 Diabetes: A condition where the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't produce enough insulin.

Prediabetes is a warning sign that you are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes if lifestyle changes are not made.
