Prediabetes often has no clear symptoms, but there are some warning signs and risk factors to be aware of:

  • Increased thirst and frequent urination: High blood sugar levels can cause these symptoms.
  • Fatigue: Feeling unusually tired or sluggish.
  • Blurred vision: High blood sugar can affect your eyesight.
  • Slow-healing sores or frequent infections: High glucose levels can impair your body's ability to heal.
  • Darkened skin patches: Often found in the neck, armpits, or groin (a condition called acanthosis nigricans).

Risk factors include:

  • Being overweight or obese.
  • Having a family history of diabetes.
  • Being physically inactive.
  • Having high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
  • Being over the age of 45.

If you notice any of these signs or have risk factors, it’s important to get tested for prediabetes. Early detection can help prevent the progression to type 2 diabetes.
