Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. It is diagnosed using the following criteria:

  • A1C Test: An A1C level between 5.7% to 6.4% indicates prediabetes.
  • Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS): A fasting glucose level between 100 to 125 mg/dL is considered prediabetic.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): A 2-hour glucose level between 140 to 199 mg/dL after drinking a glucose solution.

Prediabetes is a warning sign and increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Lifestyle changes such as weight loss, healthy eating, and regular exercise can help prevent or delay the progression to diabetes.
