Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. The A1C test is used to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes. Here’s what the A1C levels indicate:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

If your A1C falls in the prediabetes range, it means you are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. However, lifestyle changes such as healthy eating, regular exercise, and weight loss can help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
