Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. It is diagnosed based on the following criteria:

  • A1C Test: An A1C level between 5.7% to 6.4% indicates prediabetes.
  • Fasting Blood Sugar Test: A fasting blood glucose level between 100 to 125 mg/dL is considered prediabetic.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): A blood sugar level between 140 to 199 mg/dL two hours after drinking a glucose solution indicates prediabetes.

Prediabetes is a warning sign that you are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and weight loss can help prevent or delay its progression.
