Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. According to the A1C test, the ranges are as follows:

  • Normal: Below 5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%
  • Diabetes: 6.5% or above

Prediabetes can progress to type 2 diabetes if lifestyle changes are not made. Factors that increase the risk of progression include:

  • Lack of physical activity
  • Poor diet
  • Obesity
  • Genetics

To prevent prediabetes from becoming diabetes, it is recommended to:

  • Lose weight if overweight
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat a balanced diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and lean proteins
  • Monitor blood sugar levels regularly

If you have prediabetes, consult your healthcare provider for a personalized plan to reduce your risk of developing diabetes.
